The collection was first opened to the public in 1987 in Castle Bogenšperk. In 2006 the collection was partially updated. The original collection was amended with the development of the profession in the last two decades and modernized using multimedia and interactive digital presentation.
portrayed the Slovenian territory in topographic pictures and maps. His work easily matches the achievements of the contemporary European cartographers. In 1684, together with his associates, Valvasor made a very important map of Carniola in the copper engraving and printing shop of his Castle Bogenšperk. The map, with minor changes, was afterwards copied by other authors. Valvasor further contributed significantly to the recording of Slovenian geographical names.
